Marc Brys, recently appointed coach of the Cameroon national football team, has officially taken up his duties with the task of qualifying the Indomitable Lions in upcoming international competitions.
The ceremony took place in Yaoundé on Monday, April 9. The event was chaired by the Minister of Sport and Physical Education, MINSEP, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. Brys has been handed a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. Mouelle Kombi told the newly appointed coach and his staff, “Your mission is to qualify the Indomitable Lions for the next World Cup and to participate honorably in the next Africa Cup of Nations”.
FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o, was absent from the signing ceremony, indicating that he received the invitation two hours before the event. However, he mentioned that they are “busy organizing the funeral of our late Dad, and for this reason, we will not be able to attend the ceremony.”
Since the appointment of the 61-year-old Belgian-born Marc Brys, there has been tension between MINSEP and FECAFOOT. FECAFOOT said, they do not recognize the appointment of Marc Brys but MINSEP said, the appointment was done in good faith. However, both parties have further exchanged words but are not ready to back down. While MINSEP has installed the coach they appointed, FECAFOOT is due to appoint a new technical staff for the Lions following the Executive Committee Meeting that took place on April 6.
