The project coincided with celebrations of the 2024 edition of the Day of the African Child on June 16. Celebrations were done under the theme “Education for all African children”. Project K.E.E.N activities started on Friday June 15.

Going by the initiator, the focus of this year’s edition was the Twilight of Hope Foundation, a haven for children separated from their families due to poverty and conflict. Celebrating at an orphanage wasn’t just symbolic.

According to Embelle Fominyen, it provided a platform for re-education and recreation for underprivileged children displaced by the crisis in Cameroon’s northwest and southwest regions.

“Since Friday, we’ve been with them,” Blessing, a child in the Orphanage said, her voice filled with joy. “We’ve had so much fun playing games and learning new things. Now I truly believe that what I dream of becoming can be a reality.”

Another child, Nelly, said, “I’m so happy they came to help us. They showed me that my future goals are achievable. I will study hard and encourage my friends to have faith that anything is possible.”

Project K.E.E.N. wasn’t just about fun and games. In the lead-up to the Day of the African Child, the project provided training in essential life skills for children facing early-age trauma. This training aimed to help them reintegrate into a new community with a healthy mindset.

A career talk session offered a unique opportunity. Professionals like doctors, entrepreneurs, engineers, and fashion designers interacted with the children, showcasing the endless possibilities that come with ambition, self-belief, and faith. This exposure to diverse professions broadened the children’s horizons and ignited their dreams.

While understanding that these displaced children, often surrounded by negativity, needed a safe space to use their imaginations, an art session provided exactly that.

With all the necessary tools and the guidance of their “Love Parents” (diplomats, doctors, sports experts, and artists, among others), the children created artwork that embodied their ideal lives. These creations served as constant reminders of their goals and motivations.

Beyond art and career exploration, Project K.E.E.N. fostered teamwork and perseverance through various games. These playful activities emphasized the importance of collaboration and hard work in achieving success.

The project’s impact extends beyond the children themselves. The residence where they stay was given a fresh coat of paint, symbolizing the hope and joy Project K.E.E.N. brings into their lives. EmPatie Initiative envisions Project K.E.E.N. as a catalyst for an unstoppable generation of young Cameroonians.

The project empowers them to embrace their realities while dreaming of a brighter future. Project K.E.E.N. equips them with the tools and motivation to reach for their goals and carve out their destinies.
