The Sustaining Peace Foundation has brought Christmas cheer to orphans and widows in Yaoundé by hosting a joyful celebration filled with games, meals, and gifts.
The party took place on Monday December 23. Speaking at the event, Emelda Nyangha, a widow, expressed her gratitude for the party, stating, “It was wonderful seeing so many people like us come together. We already feel like a family.”
She added, “At Sustaining Peace Foundation, we have learned many valuable skills, such as soap making, producing natural oils, and sewing, among others. These skills have been invaluable.”
Nyangha further explained that since she began utilizing the skills she learned, she has been able to provide for her family. “These skills have helped us put food on the table, and we are now surviving thanks to them,” she said.
Looking ahead to 2025 with hope and ambition, Nyangha encouraged other widows to remain hopeful, focused, resilient, and determined.
Naomi Ndi, a class four child, shared her excitement about being part of the party and spending time with her friends. “We danced, laughed, played games, and ate together,” she said. “Our auntie also gave us a lot of valuable advice.”
Meanwhile, Linda Kekwi, Chief Executive Officer of the Sustaining Peace Foundation, explained that the foundation organized the party because many of these individuals would not have the opportunity to experience the type of Christmas celebration they would have desired.
“Bringing them together is about letting them know they are loved and that they are capable of achieving more than they think,” Kekwi said. “They have a bright future ahead of them.”
She added that as orphans and widows celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, they should place their trust and love in Him. “They should also know that they are loved and that the Sustaining Peace Foundation cares deeply about them,” Kekwi said. “If they are looking for a place where they can feel free and supported, the Sustaining Peace Foundation is here for them.”
Commenting on the upcoming year, Kekwi stated, “Sustaining Peace Foundation has many exciting plans in store, and we will be unveiling our 2025 activities very soon. 2025 promises to be a great year.”
