Sustaining Peace Foundation (SPF) has embarked on a transformative initiative aimed at empowering widows by providing them with financial assistance to establish sustainable businesses. This initiative, part of the “100 Widows, 100 Businesses” program for 2025, was officially launched on Saturday, January 25, in Yaoundé.

The launch event gathered 20 widows, who engaged in meaningful discussions with SPF representatives about the principles of sustainable entrepreneurship. The dialogue was designed to share valuable insights and strategies that can lead to successful business ventures.

Speaking to the media, SPF CEO Linda Kekwi highlighted the foundation’s renewed commitment to supporting widows. “In 2025, we have decided to change our strategy towards empowering widows. We are acutely aware of the challenges they face, and helping them achieve financial sustainability is a primary focus of the foundation this year,” she stressed.

Kekwi further elaborated on the foundation’s approach, stating, “While we have supported widows in various ways over the years, this time we want to ensure that those we assist financially can not only establish their businesses but also leverage their success to uplift others.”

Although specific financial allocations were not disclosed, attendees gained invaluable knowledge in several areas, including liquid soap production, household cleaning products, and cosmetics.

Notably, three widows received capital to kickstart liquid soap production, while two others were funded to launch pastry and food businesses. Additionally, widows involved in cake baking, tailoring, hairdressing, and computer skills training are set to begin their programs in the coming weeks.

The initiative will continue to provide ongoing support through SPF’s Skills and Habilitation Center in Yaoundé. This center is dedicated to offering assistance to widows and orphans facing challenges related to trauma, health issues, skills development, and human rights abuses.

With this groundbreaking initiative, the Sustaining Peace Foundation is committed to changing the lives of widows, equipping them with the necessary tools and resources to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
