Alamine Ousmane Mey, the Minister of the Economy, Planning, and Regional Development (MINEPAT), have held a series of audiences with the ambassadors of Côte d’Ivoire, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey to enhance bilateral relations and explore collaborative opportunities.
On January 30, Minister Ousmane Mey welcomed H.E Ibrahim Hamid Alghamedi, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Cameroon. During their meeting, the Minister congratulated Ambassador Alghamedi on his recent appointment and acknowledged his extensive professional background, which includes prior service in Cameroon from 2013 to 2015, as well as assignments in Australia and Nigeria.

Ambassador Alghamedi expressed optimism about strengthening the friendly ties between Saudi Arabia and Cameroon. Minister Ousmane Mey stressed that the long-standing and robust relationship between the two nations, highlighting the significant contributions made by the Saudi Development Fund in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing mutually beneficial initiatives to further enhance their partnership.

Later that same day, Minister Ousmane Mey met with the Ivorian Ambassador to Cameroon. The two officials reiterated their dedication to maintaining strong bilateral relations, describing their discussions as fruitful.

The Ivorian Ambassador stressed shared governmental objectives in addressing common challenges, stating, “We have underscored the common goals of our governments to tackle challenges that are fundamentally identical, and we aim to implement these objectives at the operational level.” They also discussed areas of mutual interest, including finance, agriculture, and football, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in December.

On January 31, Minister Ousmane Mey met with H.E Olkan Oskiper, the Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon. This meeting marked a significant advancement in reinforcing economic ties between Turkey and Cameroon.
The hour-long discussion focused on various opportunities to enhance bilateral trade and investment. Ambassador Oskiper highlighted Turkey’s commitment to deepening economic relations, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, infrastructure, and technology.

In response, Minister Ousmane Mey outlined MINEPAT’s strategic plans aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth and regional development. “We are enthusiastic about the potential collaborations that can emerge from this meeting. Strengthening partnerships with countries like Turkey is crucial for achieving our development goals,” the Minister stated.
The meeting also addressed shared challenges faced by both nations in the current global economy, including inflation, supply chain disruptions, and the impacts of climate change. Both parties expressed a willingness to exchange best practices and insights to effectively tackle these pressing issues.
