The newly elected Board Chair of the African Regional Satellite Communications Organization (RASCOM), Judith Yah Sunday épouse Achidi, has pledged to strengthen the organization’s influence.
Judith Yah Sunday, who also serves as the General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL), made the statement at the end of the 74th session of the RASCOM Board of Directors, held in Yaoundé from May 22 to 24.
Hosted by Cameroon’s Ministry of Telecommunications and supported by CAMTEL, the event brought together participants from over 45 African countries for productive discussions.
In her closing remarks, Judith Yah Sunday stated her commitment, alongside the Vice President and Director General, to working for RASCOM’s influence and the success of its missions.
“I am resolutely committed, alongside the Vice-President and the Director General, to working for RASCOM’s influence and the success of its missions,” Sunday said at the session’s closing.
She added that discussions had already begun regarding the organization of the 75th Board of Directors’ Session and Assembly of Parties, with dates and locations to be confirmed.
Expressing satisfaction with the quality of discussions and valuable contributions from member countries, Judith Yah Sunday remained confident that RASCOM, through combined efforts and commitment, would continue to play a leading role in African telecommunications development.
Delighted to be the first woman to lead the RASCOM Board of Directors, Judith Yah Sunday acknowledged the responsibility she takes on with humility and determination. “I am convinced that together we can accomplish great things,” she stated.
While Judith Yah Sunday succeeded Bini Kouame, Siaka Coulibaly from Mali was elected Vice Chair.
The 74th session saw participants review and approve several key documents for RASCOM’s functioning. Additionally, Timothy Ashong’s full five-year term as Director General was confirmed, alongside the election of the new Board President and Vice-President.
In the meantime, RASCOM Board of Directors expressed their gratitude to CAMTEL for graciously hosting the 74th meeting in Cameroon.
In a statement, they acknowledged the dedication and efforts of the entire CAMTEL team, under the leadership of Director General Judith Yah Sunday Achidi, in ensuring the meeting’s success.
They further acknowledged Achidi’s recent election as a testament to her exemplary leadership and commitment, expressing confidence that RASCOM would achieve even greater milestones under her guidance.
“Madam Achidi, your recent election as the new Chairman of the RASCOM Board of Directors is a testament to your exemplary leadership and commitment. We are confident that under your guidance, RASCOM will continue to achieve great milestones,” they said in a statement.
