A vibrant display of unity and resilience marked the International Women’s Day celebrations last Saturday March 8, as queen mothers, mothers, and titled women from the North West Region participated in a spectacular march at the May 20 Boulevard.

Dressed in colorful traditional fabrics, the women sent a powerful message of national unity and coexistence as they paraded past the ceremonial ground. First Lady Chantal Biya presided over the event, expressing her delight as the women showcased their commitment to peace, unity, and national integration.
Support from the North West Elite
The event attracted a notable presence of elites from the North West Region, who watched proudly from the grandstand. Their collective efforts to support the women were evident, as they mobilized substantial financial resources to ensure an exceptional celebration. Nearly 5,000 pieces of fabric were purchased to ensure the women looked resplendent on this significant day.

The women took a moment to express their gratitude to the North West elite for their unwavering support, not only during festive occasions but also in challenging times. Their appreciation underscored the importance of solidarity in promoting the emancipation of women in the region.
A Memorable Reception
The climax of the March 8 celebrations was a lavish reception held at the CAMTEL Club in Yaoundé, attended by traditional rulers from the North West Region. The women captivated the audience with a variety of songs and dance performances, highlighting their cultural heritage.
Judith Yah Sunday, General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL), praised the women for their dedication to unity and development, values espoused by President Paul Biya. Despite her busy schedule, she made time to engage with the participants and various dance groups.

“I want to thank you all for honoring this invitation today. As women and mothers of our beautiful region, you have demonstrated your commitment to both regional development and national prosperity,” Yah Sunday said. “I pray for your safe return home and encourage you to continue working for Peace and development in our region and country.”
At the reception, Yah Sunday also paid tribute to the traditional rulers for their blessings, which she credited for her strength and leadership. This acknowledgment followed a meeting with North West Fons the day before at CAMTEL headquarters, where they commended her exceptional leadership qualities.
The celebration served as a touching reminder of the strength and unity of women in the North West Region, as they continue to strive for progress and empowerment in Cameroon despite the challenges.
