Religious and traditional authorities from Cameroon’s three northern regions—Adamawa, Far North, and North—along with chief imams from the Central Mosques in Douala and Yaoundé, have unanimously pledged their support for President Paul Biya’s candidacy in the upcoming 2025 presidential elections.

This endorsement was announced on January 28 during a gathering at the conference hall of the Ministry of Territorial Administration, presided over by Minister Atanga Nji Paul. The declaration was presented by His Royal Majesty Ibrahim El Rachidine, the Lamido of Garoua.
In their statement, the religious and traditional leaders commended the prevailing peace throughout the country, acknowledging the ongoing security challenges in the North-West, South-West, and Far North regions. They praised President Biya for his personal involvement in organizing the Hajj over the past six years, which has ensured safe journeys for many Muslim pilgrims to and from the Holy Land.

The leaders noted that Cameroon is one of the few African nations where the Head of State provides substantial financial assistance to pilgrims, enabling approximately 6,000 faithful to participate each year. This support also includes facilitating the return of pilgrims with Zamzam water, benefiting nearly 10 million Muslims across the nation.

“President Biya’s commitment to the Muslim community exemplifies Cameroon’s tradition of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence,” the leaders emphasized. They highlighted that, despite being a devout Catholic, President Biya has consistently supported Muslim faithful, particularly during the Hajj, reflecting the nation’s unity and diversity.
Minister Atanga Nji Paul described the endorsement as historic and assured the leaders that he would promptly relay their message to President Biya. He reaffirmed the President’s dedication to the well-being of all Cameroonians and expressed gratitude for their continued support.

“President Paul Biya has always paid close attention to the needs of pilgrims and will continue to do so,” Minister Atanga Nji Paul added.
