Cameroon’s Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, and the Deputy Head of the Agriculture and Development Division of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Paris, Marie Cecile Thirion, have held discussions regarding the portfolio of rural projects in Cameroon.

The audience meeting granted by Minister Ousmane Mey to the visiting AFD official took place in Yaounde on April 15, lasted over an hour and focused on rural sector development and combating climate change, among other topics.
Virginie Dago, Director of AFD Cameroon, stated after the meeting, “Today, we discussed with the Minister and his team the projects we have in the rural sector, as well as initiatives to fight climate change and support biodiversity. We reviewed the projects, discussed achievements, and explored potential future collaborations.”
Dago stressed the importance of collaborative efforts, saying, “We insisted on the importance of working together with other ministries and partners.”
She expressed satisfaction with the meeting’s outcomes, noting that implemented projects have had a real impact, including training thousands of people, organizing cooperatives, and providing seed funding. However, she acknowledged that there is still much work to be done.
Thirion is leading the Monitoring Mission for AFD’s rural sector project portfolio. Cameroon has been a key focus for AFD, with recent support including major infrastructure projects like the Regional Capitals program and food security initiatives that offer services for rural entrepreneurs.
