Local Youth Corner Cameroon has launched a campaign geared towards promoting, safe, social cohesion and creating violence-free environments in schools across Yaoundé.

The campaign, dubbed “Access to Love,” was launched on December 20 at the Mada International School in Yaoundé. The program, which will run for several months in Yaoundé, is fronted by Cameroonian-born artist, Tohnain Anthony Nguo (Magasco aka “Bamenda Boy”).
Launching the campaign, Magasco urged the students to think about themselves and create a studying environment that is safe and conducive to teaching and learning. He stressed that this would significantly contribute to creating a better society.

“Students, we need you to eradicate these forms of violence and create a better educational environment,” he said, adding, “This can only start from us, and I trust we are united to do this. Let us all be ambassadors of peace.” Magasco further added, “Let us use this opportunity to create a better and more healthy study environment.”
Calistus Foinmujang Tubuo, the Principal of Mada International School, hailed the launch of the campaign in his institution as a moral booster for the activities the institution has been undertaking to eradicate violence in the school milieu.

“Launching the campaign is a moral booster to the activities that we are doing,” he stated, pointing out that, “It is like telling us that if we were going down, we should step up and continue the fight because the learners we impact today with love are the Cameroon that will be united tomorrow.”
While acknowledging that the institution, like others, has witnessed violence – both physical, emotional, and psychological – he stated that steps have been taken through different structures like the counseling department and Child Protection department to help calm and, in the long run, curb the problem of violence in their schools.
“Having Local Youth Corner come with the Access to Love campaign, we believe it will significantly contribute to the fight that we have already started. This will make our students more respectful, humble, and tolerant towards each other, making their classrooms and school environment a place where every student will feel safe,” he indicated.
According to the program, the campaign will be taken to other schools across the city, and clubs will be formed to gather ideas on how to combat the ills of violence. A national competition will then take place to award these ideas.

The “Access to Love” Campaign comes on the heels of increasing incidents of violence and intolerance in schools. This campaign seeks to sensitize students, teachers, and the broader school community on the importance of peaceful coexistence, respect, and constructive dialogue.
Through a series of sensitization activities, including seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions, the project aims to foster mutual understanding among diverse student groups and encourage positive behavioral change.
The campaign will implement several key activities, including arts and crafts, storytelling, essay writing, and a “Miss and Mister Access to Love Campaign.”

The campaign aims to raise awareness and educate students about critical issues such as drug abuse, hate speech, and cybercrime within schools. It also promotes the establishment of love clubs, fostering healthy relationships and emotional support, while advocating against violence.
According to Local Youth Corner, this campaign represents a significant step towards creating inclusive and harmonious learning environments in schools. By promoting social cohesion and reducing violence, Local Youth Corner aims to empower students and educators alike.
