On January 31, four opposition parties in Cameroon officially announced their support for Paul Biya’s candidacy in the upcoming Presidential Elections later this year.

The declaration took place in Yaoundé, with the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, in attendance.
Union of the Peoples of Cameroon (UPC)
The first party to voice its support was the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon (UPC). The delegation, led by Secretary General Hon. Robert Bapooh Lipot, emphasized Biya’s significant contributions to the nation.

In a message delivered by Elizabeth Bilong, former Mayor of Eseka, the UPC expressed confidence that supporting Biya is the best choice for the forthcoming elections. Hon. Bapooh Lipot on his part reiterated the importance of reaffirming the alliance between the UPC and the CPDM, inviting Biya to be the candidate for this coalition.

He remarked, “In light of the international context and the need to protect our unity and sovereignty, only Paul Biya can truly safeguard the nation.” He also expressed satisfaction in Biya’s readiness to continue his mission, underscoring the necessity of addressing current challenges.
Movement For The Defence Of The Republic (MDR)

Following the UPC, the Movement for the Defence of the Republic (MDR) also publicly declared its support for Biya. President Daissala Tigana Tassi presented Biya as the MDR’s candidate for the 2025 Presidential Elections.

He reaffirmed the party’s longstanding commitment to Biya, stating that the alliance between the MDR and CPDM has deep roots and that making this commitment is more critical now than ever.

Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) and Republican Farmers Party (PRAC)

Additionally, the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) and the Republican Farmers Party (PRAC) jointly endorsed Biya as their candidate for the upcoming elections. Led by founding member Robert Kona, the PCRN expressed its commitment to peace and national reconciliation.

The party formally requested that H.E. Paul Biya, President of the Republic, stand as a candidate in the 2025 presidential election. This decision was reached during an extraordinary congress on June 1, 2024, in Guidiguis. Notably, two mayors who recently resigned from the Cabral Libiih-led faction of the PCRN were present: Joan Jacques Mbogolti, Mayor of Makak, and Nyone Fils Huber, Mayor of Matomb.

As the elections approach, the support from these parties adds significant momentum to Biya’s campaign, highlighting a string political scene in the days ahead.
