Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) and Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (CAMWATER) have signed a strategic collaborative agreement to share infrastructure, aiming to improve services across the national territory.
The framework agreement was signed on June 19th in Yaoundé by Judith Yah Sunday épse Achidi, Director General of CAMTEL, and Dr. Blaise Moussa, Director General of CAMWATER.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Judith Yah Sunday hailed the partnership as significant milestone in the journey of Cameroon’s infrastructural development stated that “This isn’t just a signing ceremony, but a symbol of collaboration and progress.”
While emphasizing the collaboration between these two national infrastructure pillars, she said, “We are joining forces not just to share resources, but to amplify our collective impact.”
She added, “By combining our expertise and leveraging existing infrastructure, we pave the way for faster, more cost-effective deployments of Telecom and water services across our nation”
Highlighting the global trend of infrastructure sharing, Judith Yah Sunday underscored its numerous advantages, including cost efficiency, environmental sustainability, improved service delivery, empowered communities, and accelerated deployment among others.
She stressed that this collaboration presents a compelling opportunity to enhance operational efficiency and achieve mutual benefits for both organizations and the communities they serve.
Judith Yah Sunday however, stated that the signing of the partners between the two parastatals should serve as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision for progress.
“Let us harness this momentum to explore new possibilities, embrace technological advancements, and continue building a Cameroon that thrives on connectivity and sustainability,” she added.
Blaise Moussa, on his part, commended the government for encouraging collaboration and highlighted the network constraints faced by both companies due to geographical limitations.
He stated, “The aim of our convention is seeking to optimize our intervention and mutualize our capacities. This will also help us to be able to produce much more opportunities to the population.”
According to information, the signing of this partnership is a great step given that these two companies are present in the different cities in Cameroon creating an opportunity for infrastructure pooling and the optimization of investments.
As a result, CAMTEL and CAMWATER could now rely on their extension work to extend their respective networks in urban and peri -urban areas.
Consequently, as CAMTEL is preparing to launch the extension of its national backbone network through the BB4 project, CAMWATER could use the opportunity to exploit civil engineering that will be carried out by placing the piping necessary for the service of certain localities in drinking water.
