The Cameroon Association of Football Referees (ACAF) has informed the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) that referees and assistant referees will suspend participation in Elite One, Elite Two, and Women’s First Division matches starting April 21, 2025.

In a letter addressed to FECAFOOT and found on social media, ACAF cited the non-payment of referees’ dues for the 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and current seasons, totaling approximately 300 million FCFA, as the reason for the suspension. The association stated that referees will resume participation only after the outstanding debt is settled.
The letter stressed that the referees’ concerns about unpaid fees and their decision to suspend participation until the issue is resolved. Additionally, ACAF leaders cautioned their peers about the repercussions of manipulation.
However, this is not the first time referees have suspended their participation due to unpaid salaries under the Eto’o-led administration. The constant issue of unpaid salaries has led to many referees being cited in match-fixing allegations in the Cameroonian league.
The referees’ announced suspension, along with the withdrawal of Djiko FC and Bamboutos of Mbouda from the ongoing Cameroon Championship, has raised a lot of questions. Many football pundits say the current situation does not aid the development of Cameroonian football compared to other nations.
