Serge N’guessan, the outgoing Director General of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Central Africa and Country Manager for Cameroon, has been honored for his four-year tenure in the country.
The recognition took place on Thursday, January 16, during a special dinner organized by the government through the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) in Yaoundé.

The ceremony followed a meeting between N’guessan and MINEPAT Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey, who presented the honor on behalf of the President of the Republic. Minister Ousmane Mey praised N’guessan as a visionary leader, highlighting his diligent leadership that has brought significant benefits to both the Central African region and Cameroon.
In his address, N’guessan expressed heartfelt gratitude to Cameroon for its unwavering support throughout his tenure. He acknowledged the country’s longstanding partnership with the AfDB, recalling the pivotal role of the bank in financing projects like the Douala International Airport in the 1970s.
As N’guessan transitions from his role, his contributions to regional development and collaboration with Cameroon will be remembered as a significant chapter in the AfDB’s history.

A Canadian citizen, N’guessan was appointed as the Director General of the African Development Bank in Central Africa and Country Manager for Cameroon in 2021. With over 30 years of experience in international development and portfolio management, he has held significant representation roles within the bank for nearly a decade.
Prior to his current role, N’guessan served as the Deputy Director General for West Africa since September 2018, where he built an effective and motivated team and improved operational processes in the Regional Office.
Over the past ten years, he has been instrumental in enhancing policy dialogue, socio-economic reforms, resource mobilization, and collaboration with both technical and financial partners, as well as the private sector.
