2024 3rd Parliamentary Ordinary Session Wraps Up With 13 Bills Adopted

The third ordinary session of the 2024 Legislative Year has come to a closed in Yaoundé, with 13 bills scrutinized and adopted. The session wrapped up on December 11.

Speaking at the Lower House of the National Assembly, House Speaker Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril emphasized the productive discussions during the session. He stated that among the 13 bills adopted was the Finance Bill pertaining to the State Budget for the 2025 financial year.

“As scrutinized, amended, and passed by your elected representatives, the 2025 State Budget is balanced in terms of revenue and expenditure, totaling FCFA 7,370.7 billion, compared to FCFA 7,278.1 billion in 2024. This represents an increase of FCFA 39.6 billion in absolute terms, or 0.5 percent in relative terms,” he stated.

Hon. Cavaye noted that the government now possesses a realistic State Budget, prepared in alignment with the esteemed guidelines of the Head of State and the development objectives outlined in Cameroon’s 2025 economic, financial, social, and cultural agenda.

He highlighted that the 2025 State Budget would enable the government to tackle numerous challenges, including consolidating peace, national unity, and social equity, as the country strives to become an emerging market economy amidst a backdrop of stability and cohesion.

“It should be remembered that the presidential election is scheduled for 2025. As we mentioned during the opening ceremony of this session, we anticipate a transparent and peaceful presidential election in a secure environment,” he added.

The Speaker of the National Assembly also recalled other bills that were adopted, including the Bill on Local Taxation, the Bill Governing Civil Protection in Cameroon, the Bill on Personal Data Protection, and the Bill to Organize the Civil Registration System. “These specific legal instruments represent significant legislative advances,” he said.

In addition to the bills, Hon. Cavaye praised Cameroon-China relations, which facilitated the construction of the 55 billion FCFA modern National Assembly Complex. He credited President Paul Biya’s vision to position Cameroon as an emerging economy by 2035.

He stated, “We remain grateful to the People’s Republic of China for this magnificent architectural contribution to Cameroon.” It is worth nothing that the closing ceremony of the 3rd ordinary session took place in the new House Chamber of the National Assembly of Cameroon
