The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant boost in prize money for the upcoming 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
According to CAF, the winner of the tournament will now receive $3.5 million, marking a remarkable 75 percent increase from previous editions.
Additionally, the total prize pool for the tournament has also been enhanced to $10.4 million, reflecting a 32 percent increase overall. Going by CAF, the move underscores the continental body’s commitment to elevating the profile of the tournament and supporting the development of football across the continent.
“We are thrilled to significantly increase the prize money for the winner to $3.5 million. The CHAN is a vital competition for nurturing and showcasing Africa-based football talent,” Dr. Patrice Motsepe, CAF President stated. “This increase will not only enhance the tournament’s appeal but also contribute to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions.”
Dr. Motsepe stressed that the CHAN aligns with CAF’s broader strategy to invest in African football, making it more attractive to fans, sponsors, and partners both regionally and internationally.
The 2024 CHAN is set to kick off on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with the final scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025. A total of 17 countries will compete in this eagerly anticipated tournament, including the hosts Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, along with Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar.
As the countdown to the tournament begins, excitement is building among fans and stakeholders alike, promising a thrilling display of football talent across the continent.
